About the Recipe
The recipe starts by mixing a little vinegar and milk together, which is a simple way to make homemade buttermilk. This is what gives these pancakes their rich taste and fluffy texture. It’s a secret to making pancakes that taste better than a box mix!
These pancakes are loaded with chocolate chips but not overly sweet. They’ll remind you of your favorite diner-style pancakes. Drizzle some maple syrup over the top and you’ll have a crave-worthy meal for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
Tips For The Recipe
Mixing milk and vinegar: at the beginning of this recipe, you’ll mix together milk and vinegar and then set the mixture aside. This is a simple way to make homemade buttermilk. After the mixture sits, it will settle, and clumps will form. As you mix your wet ingredients, work to whisk out as many of these lumps as possible.
How to make evenly-sized pancakes: use a measuring cup to measure out ¼ cup of batter for each pancake. You can create evenly-sized pancakes by measuring your batter and then pouring it into your skillet from about 6” above your pan.
When to flip your pancakes: once you start to see bubbles in your pancakes and the edges begin to look cooked through, it’s time to flip your pancake. You’ll want them to be golden brown on both sides.

Ingredients
2 cups milk
2 tablespoons white vinegar
2 cup all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
In a medium bowl, gently whisk together the milk and vinegar. Set aside for 10 minutes. This will allow the mixture to ‘sour’ and turn to buttermilk.
In a large bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
Add the egg, melted butter and vanilla into the milk and vinegar mixture. Whisk to combine.
Pour the flour mixture into the milk mixture. Whisk until smooth.
Fold in the chocolate chips.
Coat a large skillet with cooking spray over medium heat. For pancakes that are about 5” wide, pour ¼ cup of batter into the pan. Once the pancake starts to show bubbles on the surface, flip and cook for a couple minutes more until browned on both sides.
