Everyone loves fresh cookies right out of the oven and they are all warm and chewy.
What happens with the leftovers? How do you store them? Are they hard just in a day or two?
These are very good questions if you like to bake cookies and keep them around the house for yourself or the kids. As long as I can remember my mom would make cookies and then stick a piece of bread into the sealed container. It wasn’t until I was older that I really understood why she did this.
Just one slice of bread will keep your cookies moist and chewy for a longer period of time. If you notice that the bread is no longer soft don’t worry because the cookies are taking all of the moisture. If you forget to put a piece of bread in right away don’t worry you can still add it a day or two later to make them chewy again.
My mom taught me this too! 🙂
Yay for moms!
I never thought of this! Great idea!
I’ve heard this tip so many times but have never done it myself, then again… they rarely last long enough to worry about getting hard lol. Oops.
How smart is this!!!
I have never heard this tip, but I am going to try it because my cookies always get hard after like two days!
Yes, it definitely works!
Isn’t this amazing? I sent some cookies to a friend for his birthday once and rather than a thank you, I got a text saying “wtf bread?” lol
