It’s time for Happy Hour with this Ruby Red Chilton cocktail.
Baby is down for a nap, and I make my way to the kitchen for a 9 am cocktail. I’d say that is one heck of a way to start off the day, even if it is for testing and photography purposes only. (Wink, Wink) Maybe it is time for me to do cocktails full time, so I’d be testing out cocktails every single day. I’m sure I could gather up a few extra taste testers this way.
If you live in the Lubbock area, you’ve probably heard of a Chilton. Supposedly a doctor and a country club bartender in Lubbock came up with this famous lemon cocktail. I’m taking this legendary drink one step further by adding some Deep Eddy’s Ruby Red vodka, along with the lemon juice, club soda, and ice.
This just so happens to be my mother-in-law’s MOST favorite beverage, and I can’t wait to share this new version with her. I think it is ranking in my Top 5 drinks of all time. That’s saying a lot, especially if I want to do cocktails full time. A cocktail needs to be simple to make and something that people can whip up fast when friends are over or if you need a quick fix after a long day with the kiddos and a glass of wine just won’t do.
No judging. I’m always up for an excellent cocktail to take with me while I escape to the bathroom for at least 15 minutes of silence.
Now it’s time for you to relax a little with this Ruby Red Chilton drink.
Add salt to the rims of two cocktail glasses. Fill each glass to the top with nugget or regular ice.
Pour vodka and juice from 3 lemons to a cocktail shaker. Shake and then pour into the two glasses.
Top with club soda.

I work at said country club. We now have a restaurant called Chiltons there. We have this recipe on our cocktail list as well as with cucumber Effen vodka (VERY refreshing). But my personal favorite is with western son prickly pear vodka! SO good if you love sour patch kids. You can also add jalapenos to the cucumber or Ruby Red Chilton and its pretty tasty!
Thanks for this easy and refreshing recipe. It’s summer here and I would really love to try this recipe to refresh me in summer. Also, Lemons in this recipe make it quite healthy. You are great!
I particularly enjoy using Western Son prickly pear vodka in my cocktail. It has great taste, especially if you’re a fan of Sour Patch Kids candy then add jalapenos
