When it comes to visiting a relaxing, romantic, beachside resort then Victoria House in Ambergris Caye, Belize is the place. After taking a 15-minute plane ride from the Belize City you land on the small island. You get whisked away either by taxi or golf cart to the resort which is provided with your stay.
After pulling up to the Victoria House you enter the lobby and get your first glance of the ocean, pool, manicured lawns, restaurant and a view that makes you excited. You soon realize why it makes it hard to leave this resort.
Our room was off to one side of the resort and located near the restaurant/bar. The plantation room had a king size canopy bed with a sitting area, desk, bar with refrigerator and bathroom. One of my favorite features besides having a working A/C was an overhead fan for the room and bathroom. Each room on the resort also has its own balcony or porch for guests to enjoy the ocean views. Most of the rooms on site do not include TV’s or phones. I mean don’t we all get away to relax and not be bothered by these items. Wifi is also provided on the resort but it spotty, so I suggest you leave the work at home while on your relaxing getaway.
Rooms vary in size from the traditional staterooms to casitas and villas. The villas offer rooms ranging from 2-5 bedrooms with a beachfront view and the largest offers your own private pool.
After checking in we went to check out the beach and to hang out in some hammocks while the waves hit the beach wall. You can take a stroll on the dock to look at the fish, crabs and stingrays.
Activities include:
The Victoria House has two restaurants on site called the Palmilla and Admiral Nelson’s Bar. The Palmilla takes reservations and during their busy months is highly recommended. Since we went during the off season we were able to get a table without much trouble. When we go to a beach resort I’m always game for any type of fish dish. In fact, I ate fish every single meal except for breakfast. I couldn’t get enough of it. I recommend trying the tempura shrimp, grouper, lobster and the make your own fish tacos. Belize also has a local beer and it soon became a favorite of mine, so be on the lookout for Belikin Lighthouse Lager. Tired or wanting to spend more time in the room? Just make an order at one of the restaurants and they will get it delivered to you.
