Having school age kids, I know how important it is to send them off to school with a nutritious breakfast. Every kid needs something in their bodies to help them process the information and give them a little bit of energy before lunchtime. This past year I was able to attend a low-income school in Cleveland for breakfast, which was difficult when I learned how much the kids needed that extra bit of fuel in the mornings. After a conversation with the Principal, it was noted that more than 80% of the attendance was coming for their free breakfast. It’s scary to think that there are a ton of kids out there that only receive these meals at school and don’t get any nourishment at home.

I’ve teamed up with Market Street for their Hunger Is Campaign for the month of September. There is still time to donate to this cause by purchasing Nutella and Quaker Oats products at your local store. When you purchase these products United Supermarkets will donate up to $1 million towards this campaign. This money also allows for the continuing of this program throughout the year.

It’s terrifying and sad to know that 1 out of 5 kids in America live in a household without access to a nutritious meal every day. 3 out of 5 K-8 graders come to school hungry. Many schools are trying to implement programs that allow them to feed any kid who comes for breakfast before school starts. Nutella Oat Bites

Yield: 24+

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

• 3 cups Quaker Oats
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1/2 cup Nutella
• 1/4 cup honey
• 2/3 cup peanut butter
• 2/3 cup rice krispies

Instructions

Place all ingredients into the food processor.  Blend until everything is well combined.  Using a spoon start to scoop into small 2 teaspoon size balls and place on a baking/cookie sheet.

You can flash freeze for 5 minutes in the freezer or just start eating them right away.
