Hot dog, hot dog, hot dignity dog! Yes, I’ve probably watched too many reruns of Mickey Mouse but I can’t help think of the song when eating or writing about hot dogs. It’s catchy just like hot dogs are! We make hot dogs quite frequently in our home but I have never once blogged a hot dog recipe. I’m in complete shock and disarray that I let this happen. Don’t worry because I’m making up with it today with this apple, fennel and cheese hot dog recipe.
Now this is not your typical hot dog covered in chili, cheese, pickles or any other simple condiment. This is my simple but more fancy hot dog recipe.
Back in April when I was freezing my buttocks off in supposed to be sunny California, I was introduced to Fork in the Road. They were the main supplier of meat during my food conference and I definitely fell in love with them.
After the conference was over I got to chatting with the company and they offered to send me some meat to try out with our family. This girl was not about to turn down different choices of meat and I think my husband and meat loving little girl would agree.
These beef hot dogs are bigger than most franks at your local grocery store and taste WAY better. Along with many other food companies they allow you to track your food package to the farm. It’s able to show the different farms, the processing plant and the kitchen for good quality control with each package.
“We use only the highest-quality meat — heirloom pork, sustainably-raised beef and free-roaming chicken and turkey.” ÂDisclosure: I was not compensated for this post but did receive some meat to eat. I decided to blog about this company and opinions are 100% my own.

Did you make this recipe?
Meagan, your photos are gorgeous!! I want to reach through my screen and grab a dog!
These are some fancy delicious looking hotdogs!
These do look yummy! Looking forward to fixing them! I have a question about cooking the hot dogs themselves…do you cook them stove-top or broil them? Steps 2 and 3 only mention the buns. Thanks for the recipe =)
Hi Elizabeth,
Step 2 is for the beef hot dogs and I changed it to reflect it. Thanks!
I’m not usually a huge hot dog fan but these look out of this world! Yum!
Doggonnit–these are seriously drool worthy! I love apple/fennel together, and putting them on a hot dog is a stroke of brilliance. I want to come to your BBQ 🙂
I love Fork in the Road hot dogs!! And this flavor combo, brilliant!
Apple and fennel — always a great combo, but so fresh and new with hot dogs. Yum!
What great flavor combination for hot dogs! I will definitely have to check out this company too. And your pictures are gorgeous!
Love to see quality hot dogs being used and I love this apple fennel cheese topping! Never thought I’d say this about a hot dog, but that topping makes it look so fresh!
Oh, I like these flavor combinations, I would have never thought to use Apple, Fennel, and Cheese on the hot dogs!
I love the idea of combining apple and fennel, and I adore a good hot dog. This one looks like a home run!
