Is it possible to get sick and tired of the same recipe over and over? No way as long as it is good food and it feeds my family. It also doesn’t hurt if they keep eating it and don’t get tired of it either. In fact we fell in love with these simple toothpick tacos that we have made them 4 times in the past three weeks. You can also bet that we won’t be stopping anytime soon. I’m trying to think of other creative ideas for these tacos.
So what is a toothpick taco?
It’s a cross between a soft taco and hard taco with seasoned beef in the middle and it is baked in the oven.
A couple weeks ago we gathered at a family members house for a Mexican themed meal. We had drinks, enchiladas, rice, beans, chips, salsa and of course fried toothpick tacos. I told them immediately after helping make the tacos that I would be making this again for the blog. I was destined to do a baked version for a little healthier take on this recipe.
Once the tacos are done baking you just simply remove the toothpicks and slightly crack it open to fill it with cheese, salsa, avocado, lettuce or any other fillings. I’m thinking my next round might involve eggs and chorizo.
ENJOY ~ Meagan
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
In a skillet add the onions and meat. Cook until meat is brown. Stir in the garlic powder, minced garlic, chili powder, paprika and salt.
Warm the tortillas so that they are flexible. Using a large spoon place a mixture of the beef on one side of the tortilla. Fold the other side over and secure the edges with 3 toothpicks. Repeat until all tortillas and meat mixture have been used.
Place on a baking sheet and bake for 8 minutes. Remove from oven and flip them all over and cook for an additional 4 minutes.
Remove the toothpicks and fill with your favorite toppings.

Thanks for the kind words Catherine!
Yum! I see why you have made this a few times. The tacos looks nice and crispy!
We love tacos at my house! They’re messy, but so hearty. I use ground turkey or chicken, but I’m making these asap. 🙂
Why do you make all of my favorite foods? 🙂
I could say the same for you.
I’ve had these five thousand times, but never baked them. I’ll have to try it!
Great recipe…thanks for sharing
I just found your blog and can’t wait to check out more of your recipes because these are so fun! There is a little hole-in-the-wall taco restaurant in my town and their shells are a blend of crunchy and soft. They look so similar to this, which means I gotta make ’em! After all, a girl can never have too many taco recipes!
Welcome Ali!
These are such a fun recipe and the possibilities are endless with these tacos.
Love this idea! I am a fan of both hard and soft shell tacos but something in between sounds perfect! Love how easy they are to make too!
This is totally right up my alley, of course I want to try the fried version too! Gorgeous photos!
