This thick and creamy homemade gravy is the perfect addition to a large bowl of mashed potatoes. In partnership with Idahoan® Foods.
Easter meal prep is well under way and I can guarantee that there will be a big helping of mashed potatoes on our table. With that being said, I will have requests from several family members for homemade gravy to drizzle on top. The kind of gravy that is thick and creamy, made from bacon grease and has crushed peppercorns. Do I have your attention now?
This next Sunday we will be coming home from church and any additional help in the kitchen will be needed for meal preparation. I had the privilege to try out the new Idahoan Signature™ Russets Mashed Potatoes. The Signature Russets were just released this past year and I couldn’t wait to try it out after I tried their soup line. I was a bit skeptical about making mashed potatoes from a package. However, after seeing the combination of potatoes, butter and real milk; I now had mashed potatoes ready that were full of flavor. In less than 5 minutes, you get creamy mashed potatoes that taste just like you had peeled, boiled and mashed the potatoes yourself.
Feeding a small crowd? These packets are also resealable and come with instructions for 4, 8 and 12 serving sizes. Of course, my family of 5 went with the whole packet and we almost devoured it all in two sittings. I can’t wait to put these mashed potatoes back on our table next weekend along with this easy Homemade Gravy with Bacon Grease.
Add bacon grease a skillet over low/medium heat. Slowly whisk in the flour for about 2 minutes until clumps start to form. Pour in 1 cup of milk and stir until gravy thickens about 3 minutes. Then add another cup and repeat until gravy is thick and creamy. Place heat on low and sprinkle in the salt and pepper. Made this a few minutes ago, and love it! Simple ingredients and easy to make and delicious
Can this be madewith 1% milk? Lol looked this up on the spot and unfortunately I do not have whole milk on hand. Let me know please would love to try this! thank you.
Yes, you can make it with 1% milk.
Worst recipe ever. What does “Add bacon grease a skillet over” even mean first off? Clumps start to form immediately at the first stroke of the stir so are you tellijg me to stop storring the second I see a clump? 3 cups of milk is in the ingredienta liat but you only say to pour in two. You say “repeat until gravy is thick and creamy” but if you put more milk it is going to make the gravy more thin. You need to find a new hobbie. You cannot direct cooking.
English please
Relaxxxxx lmao. If you can’t understand those VERY simple instructions, you’re the problem. The recipe worked perfectly for me. Maybe look inward and reevaluate your life if you’re THIS upset over a recipe that no one forced you to make.
Perhaps you should attempt this recipe while sober and you’d achieve a better outcome. Just a thought…
Wow… you obviously did not even try to cook it or you would know adding milk is a crucial part of gravy! I guess you have never made gravy before… this is the basic way to make any gravy! Do not troll unless you have tried it… this is a great recipe!
Had a wonderful flavor and easy to make!!
Made this recipe today followed instructions to the tee and to me it’s tastes to milky it doesn’t have any good typical flavor/ seasoning. It literally tastes like thick milk. Any suggestions to addd flavor?
Homemade gravy is simple grease of any kind sprinkle in flour don’t over cook the flour or it will turn brown then add milk salt and pepper this will work if stated correctly three cups is to much gravy will be thin you will have to boil out and turn up heat the most simple recipe turned hard over dialogue it’s all about presentation
Very simple, this worked out just great for me! Simple instructions to follow too! This is so easy, a caveman can do it! Got a bit thicker than I’d like, so I just kept adding a bit of milk at a time till I was satisfied with the consistency. Thank You for this.
Comment trolls on the otherhand, I can not speak for them… after all, they speak for themselves.
Im not feeding an army, just 2 people. So i did one third of every ingredient. Way too much flour. Probably needed half that flour. Also people need to know to add flour slowly while using a whisk and brown the flour before adding milk. Add the milk slowly and continue using whisk. Also it needs more salt.
She clearly said in this article that she has a family of 5. Just saying
way too much flour
This was the worst recipe! Thanks for a thick paste of nothing.
That was a very good recipe! I just needed a refresher, it’s been a while. I think the problem a lot of people may be having is the recipe leaves some directions out. Melt the grease then SLOWLY add the flour, you might need a little bit less. Continuously WHISK don’t use a spoon!
I used exactly what the recipe called for. Perfect consistency. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews. I’ve made plenty of gravy but wasn’t sure how to incorporate bacon grease. Found this simply recipe and there is really no difference in the way I’ve made the others. Thank you for the help and will definitely be adding this to our Saturday brunch!
